OCEANSIDE: BC Baseball names Oceanside Pee Wee AA 13U Team of the Year!
BC Baseball names Oceanside Pee Wee AA 13U Team of the Year!
The news broke in an email last Thursday from BC Baseball’s Provincial Pee Wee Division Chair Orville Germaine. “You guys did a great job, and the kids played their hearts out in the Provincial final, really exciting!”
This was the First provincial championship at any age level that our association was part of and we can be very proud of this team. So who made this happen? Coaches Rob McGorman, Kirk Walper, and Greg Donkersley spent hundreds of hours coaching, teaching, and practicing. Jaret Abel, Alicia Fox, Nicole Proch and the parent volunteer group was amazing and seemingly tireless with constant support. But when all is said and done, it’s up to the players on the field to bring it home. These ten young men exhibited the highest level of sportsmanship and work effort throughout the year and most especially during the championship tournament.
Some words from head coach Rob McGorman on behalf of the team:
“First, The Oceanside Pee Wee AA Red’s would like to thank BC Baseball for this amazing award. The 2016 Oceanside Reds were in there 4rth season playing together. They had been together since first year Mosquito and made the Provincials every year but in the 2016 it all came together. Countless of hours of practice, fall ball, winter ball, endless time in the batting cage and a five day a week dedication to the team paid off. As individuals and as a team they adopted the saying “attitude is everything”. Once they embraced the mental side of the game they started to play with more confidence and they could shake off the presser and just play hard. If you have ever watched them play you can’t tell the score by looking at them. Their energy and positive approach to each situation is infectious. Always competitive, always battling always striving to better themselves. Playing the game the way it was meant to be played. With an undefeated regular season and sweeping the AA Provincials the Oceanside Reds had an amazing year, but it’s not what they did it’s how they did it.”
