Once again the top tier of BC Baseball’s 18U program has demonstrated their true mettle in a “knock down, drag ’em out” series of games on Saturday with all six contenders locking in a three way tie forcing a final showdown between all six teams tomorrow!

The Cloverdale Nationals went down in a nail biter losing 3-2 to the Kamloops Riverdogs and then bounced back hard with a convincing 20-7 victory over the ’Dogs.

Richmond City Chuckers stumbled out of the gate dropping their game first game 11-0 to the Tri City Thunder. A quick reset and recovery saw them swing back with a 2-0 win over Tri City.

In the third series, the West Kelowna D Backs cruised to a 6-2 triumph over the Ridge Meadows Royals in game one and seemed to be in control of game two but could not suppress the fire power of Ridge Meadows sticks as the Royals surged back to take the second game 10-9.

This sets up a very exciting SUPER SUNDAY that has all six teams in the do or die game three showdowns the winners of those games move on to the BC Baseball CPL Final Four playoff weekend!

It’s all on the line now…

A congratulatory “shout out” goes to team Van Coastal on their Gold Medal performance at the BC Summer Games Cowichan 2018!

Team BC is off to a good start with 2 pool wins yesterday which placed them in top spot in Pool A, and a semi final game today at 10:15.

Amongst the hills of Enumclaw, Washington with Mt. Rainier in the background, Team BC beat “The Game” 2-0 behind a complete game 8 strike out performance from Tricity’s Ethan Powell. Richmond Chuckers’ Nathan Hikida tied the game with a clutch double in the 5th and Ridge Meadow’s Owen McCuaig scored the winning run by leading off 6th with a double.

Game two was a different story, but with the same result: Team BC beat the Avengers 7-3 to take too spot in their pool. Victoria’s Ben Havelock struggled early, giving up 3 runs but only the first was earned. Jake Finkelstein, from Richmond came in to throw 4 plus innings of shut out relief. He racked up 11 strike outs and even got a personal shout-out by the Avengers coaching staff after the game. Offensively, Team BC broke out for 7 runs on 6 hits. Cloverdale’s Lucas Longoria paced the Canadians with 2 hits.

Coached Hyde is pleased, “The boys are coming together as a group. Two strong pitching performances from Justin’s (pitching coach) staff was huge. We are on a roll and need to keep it going”. He loves the strong contingent of Parents that have joined the team down south. Saturday, it was evident… Team BC 16U Selects is here to REPRESENT!
