INAUGURAL ISLAND COACHES CONFERENCE. Three Great Days of Baseball
Day 1- In spite of a curveball in the form of six inches of snow attendance at the first Vancouver Island Coaches Conference and Players Clinic was solid. Over 35 players turn out for the13U Players Clinic. The players were treated to some outstanding coaching from the likes of Pete Caliendo, Pete Wilkinson, Mike Griffin, and Trot Nixon. Sessions included warm up, pitching and throwing, fielding and hitting. The Clinic began at 5:30 and wrapped up at 9 pm.
For the Coaches, the NCCP Initiation Module was offered. Again, considering the weather, attendance was solid with 28 coaches coming out to take the first in the series of NCCP modules.
Tomorrow will feature the 15U players working with our coaches led by Mike Griffin and Trot Nixon while the coaches will get sessions on practice planning, baseball fitness and conditioning, throwing and mental approach from Pete Wilkinson, Pete Caliendo and Anthony Pluta.
Day 2- Another great day in the books on the Island – Van Isle Baseball 2 Mother Nature 0. Despite another good evening snowfall 18 U15 players and 30 coaches had a great day at Arbutus Meadows.
Highlights of the day were Pete Wilkinson’s talk on “teaching tempo” and the guest coaches Hot Stove Q&A for players and coaches at lunch. Trot Nixon’s most feared pitching opponent, Mariano Rivera “he had one pitch and you knew it was coming but you couldn’t hit it.”
Looking forward to a series sweep tomorrow over Mother Nature with another day with the coaches and the 18U players clinic.
Day 3 -The clinic wrapped up with the last day for the coaches and 18U players. A big shout out to the participants of this weekends clinic despite some of the worst winter weather the island has seen in a few years. Over the weekend we saw over 60 Van Isle coaches and 70 players take advantage of some fantastic instruction from a knowledgeable and passionate group of coaches.
A special thanks to Pete Caliendo, Pete Wilkinson, Mike Griffin, Trot Nixon, Jay Stott, Drew Anderson, Anthony Pluta and Nicholas Holmes. Great coaches and fantastic people.
Great start to the season and a prelude to the incredible lineup at the upcoming BC Baseball Coaching Conference in Langley.
