15U Selects Day 2 update

The team had the morning off to rest up for their 3:45 pm game at North Western University Stadium against Fastball USA Academy. The weather today was a bit milder at 25 degrees then the previous two days which was greatly appreciated by the players.

The Fastball USA team went into today’s game with a 2-0 record, handily beating their opponents the day before.

BC Selects went into today’s game with a 1-0 record.

The leading pitcher for the Selects team was Braedy Euerby. The game was tightly contested throughout. Fastball USA opened up the scoring in the first inning with back to back singles. Both teams played tight defensive innings until the top of the fifth inning when the BC Selects Conor Macintosh made it in to base with a single to right field. After stealing a base and making it to third off of a drag bunt by Keegan Lott, Keegan Stole second prompting an attempt to throw him out. The ball was over thrown to second and Conor stole home tying the game at 1.

Both teams battled offensively and defensively until the 7th and final inning. The BC Selects batting at the top of the 7th found Jude Hall at third after an error. With one out Coach Frick signalled for squeeze play, the pitch was thrown, Jude took off from third running home, the batter set for a bunt but the pitch landed on the ground before the plate. The catcher trapped the ball and forced a run down and a tag for the out. No runs would score for BC.

The bottom of the 7th with two outs and bases loaded the batter for Fastball USA walked causing the winning run to score.

It was a tough game to lose after a stellar pitching effort by Braedy. Braedy only allowed 4 hits and struck out 6 batters. Despite the lose the team was in good spirits and left the ball diamond to hit the nearby beach on the campus of North Western University. The players enjoyed a few games of beach volleyball, beach football and swimming in Lake Michigan.

The team is 1 and 1 so far in the tournament and are set to play two games tomorrow at Trinity University Stadium.
