Chicago's own Peter Caliendo checks out Team B.C At Wood Bat Classic
I just returned from a great day watching my baseball friends from BC Baseball from British Columbia, Canada playing in a big tournament in Chicago.
Got a chance to visit with these great young BC Baseball coaches along with Wayne Laviolette their team leader who does a great job. During the game talk to some of the parents about their experience in Chicago and they seemed to be having a very good time. The team was losing 3-0 in the 6th but came back to win and so far they are 3-1 against some very good travel team programs.
I was impressed with the young mens attitude during the game as well as their hustle on and off the field. Their shortstop made some very good plays, pitchers did a very good job, good defense for one that has not played together that much, very very impressive. You can tell the coaches have done a very good job with these young men in a very short time along with my good friend Reggie Smith former MLB player who spent 3 days in training camp with the coaches and players.
Could not of been more impressed with the whole group and it goes to show what coaches training, the caravan and all the long term development programs that BC Baseball has, does for the development of the players.
This team and group of people were a great example for all in the event on how to behave, respect the game and play hard all the time no matter what the score. It definitely showed today because they never gave up and came from behind to win. They have been playing very good USA travel teams and have represented BC Baseball and Canada with flying colors.
So proud to be part of a great baseball organization as BC Baseball, keep up the great work especially at the grass roots level where you have shown to be the leader at this level in Canada.
Always wishing you the best,
Peter M. Caliendo, Former USA Baseball National Team Coach.
