15U Team Day 3 Update

The BC 15U Select Team had to wait until day 3 to play their double header, but it was most definitely worth it. With a heart-breaking loss yesterday against a strong Fastball USA team, the boys representing BC Minor were determined to get back in the win column. They would face Force Elite who reside in the West side of Chicago, Force Elite needed a sweep of their 2 games today in order to place first in the pool.
Force Elite would get on the board first as a two out error by the BC Selects’ defence allowed Force Elite to take advantage and score 2, one of their runs came off a booming double down the left field line. Force Elite would tack on another run in the 2nd as a leadoff walk issued by BC’s starter, Lott would come around to score making it 3-0 Force Elite after 2.
Lott would give the boys wearing their red British Columbia shirts exactly what they needed, a quality 3 2/3 innings only allowing 3 runs (1 earned) while striking out 6. Force Elite’s starting pitcher, Caputo looked to be in full control as he continually induced weak pop ups and weak ground outs, Caputo and his Force Elite squad looked like they were easily headed towards a clean victory until a wild 6th inning came upon them.
With 1 out in the bottom of the 6th and the BC Selects still down 3-nothing, Logan Domanski decided to spark his team’s dormant offence by executing a perfect drag bunt that caught everyone by surprise. Domanski would plate the first run for the home team as Baybay, arguably one of BC Selects’ hottest hitters this tournament drove home Domanski with a 2-out single through the left side. A walk put two runners on (tying run now at 1st base), bringing up Diego Colebourne who ripped a 2-out 2-strike base hit to right scoring Baybay to bring BC Selects within 1 and the tying run now at 2nd while the go-ahead run standing at 1st.
Coach Cam Frick would bring in Jude Hall to pinch hit and Force Elite would counter by replacing their lefty reliever with their closer. Hall wouldn’t waste any time trying to gather “intel” on the new relief pitcher as the freshly-subbed Hall ripped a deep triple into right on the first pitch, the ball landed just fair and kicked up chalk, Euerby (tying run) would score with ease, Colebourne (go-ahead run) would score on a closely contested play at the plate, the ball would skip past the catcher as Hall rounding 3rd would make a break for home and score the 5th run of the game, getting mobbed by his teammates after safely sliding into home. Powell and McIntosh would end up closing the game out on the mound for the BC Selects as the boys from up north would win this one in exciting fashion, 5-3 your final.

In Game 2, Team BC sent Logan Domanski to the mound to face off against the Illinois Indians. Domanski threw well (6IP, 4H, 3R, 1ER, 1BB, 6K) but, in similar fashion to the first game of the day, the offence stayed silent until the last inning. Max Yuen came in to relieve Domanski in the 7th and retired the side in order.

With two outs in the bottom of the 7th and Team BC down by three Connor McIntosh picked up his third hit of the game ripping a single to left center. Diego Colbourne followed that up with a single of his own to right center bringing Braedy Euerby to the plate as the tying run. Euerby promptly took a 1-0 fastball deep to the right center wall easily scoring two. An errant throw trying to get Euerby at 3rd went out of play allowing Euerby to circle the bases, forcing extras. The Indians scored two in the top of the 8th to take the lead, 5-3 but the 15U Selects had no intentions of rolling over. They were intent on making their third multi-run comeback of the day.

Para led off the bottom of the 8th with a perfectly placed single to the 6hole. With the third baseman playing back, McGill laid down a perfect drag bunt and all of a sudden Team BC had the tying run on. When the Illinois coach indicated to his third baseman to hold his position on another bunt with runners on first and second, Sugi laid down another perfect bunt down third to load the bases. A wild pitch brought the first runner home and back-to-back singles by Domanski and Hall gave Team BC the victory!

With a 3-1 record in round robin play, the Team BC 15U Selects have earned a spot in the Silver Championship semi final at 3:45 CST, playing the winner of GoPro Baseball and Woodall Academy Blue.
