“Hey Jude, don’t make it bad
“Take a sad song and make it better
“Remember to let her into your heart
“Then you can start to make it better.”

The words were written by Sir Paul McCartney, were meant for his pal’s son, Julian Lennon were sung so eloquently.

But they sort of, kinda of fit in the BC Selects dugout when they travelled to the Great Lakes Wood Bat Classic headquartered in the Evanston, Ill. area.

Hey Jude!

Jude Hall pitched a complete-game 4-2 win over the Diamond Dawgz in Game 1 of the tourney at Kerry Wood Stadium Cubs Field, a short drive from Wrigley Field. Hall needed only 74 pitches allowing two runs — one earned — on four hits, while striking out three.

BC struck first as Connor McIntosh lead off the bottom of the second with a walk, stole second and third before scoring on a wild pitch. The Dawgz scored a pair in the third for a 2-1 lead. And the score was the same entering the bottom half of the sixth. Johnny McGill doubled to left, advanced on a passed ball, McGill scored on a Kenneth Sugi infield single, tying the game. Sugi advanced on a wild pitch and Logan Domanski dropped a perfect bunt down the third base line putting runners at first and third with none out. Thomas Baybay singled to right centre for a 3-2 lead. Sean Heppner hit an infield single to load the bases and Team BC would extend the lead to 4-2 on a McIntosh RBI grounder.

Hall retired the Dawgz in order in the top of the seventh to secure the win.
