Team BC Day 2 at College Showcase Tournament

Tuesday Aug 22 – It has been another very long, super-filled day for our Team BC boys. First off, they wished Coach Scott Happy Birthday as he celebrated his “39th” birthday! Our game against All Out Underclass began with Pecht starting and two runs allowed in the first inning. King got walked and came home on a couple of overthrows making it 2 1 after the first. We were down 6 3 by mid-game with Ray coming in to pitch in the second and Carpenter closed. Our bats came to life in the 4th inning and we scored 6 runs to take the lead 6 9. Highlights: Gernon RBI triple; Moorman 2RBI double (went 2 for 3); Carpenter and McCool both went 2 for 3 (singles) and Dykstra, Hall, Merritt, and Pankratz all singled. We had hits from every part of our line up and showed incredible teamwork. Moorman also had an amazing defensive catch which was a game changer! It was a great battle and ultimately Team BC pulled off a tie 10 10 against a very strong team.

Immediately after the game, we loaded the vans and took off for Philadelphia to make the second game of the Phillies against the Marlins. It was a long drive with major traffic along the way. Our boys were excited to be in Citizen’s Bank Park and witnessed several home runs, each time that happens the liberty bell lights up and rings. By the bottom of 9 the skies opened up and we witnessed a torrential downpour accompanied by thunder and lighting. Everyone was soaked! It was a reminder of a very similar time for this team in Arizona in March at a Cubs game where the skies opened up and the game ended after the top of 4. These are what make memories for this team and they won’t ever forget these MLB games they attended! It was a long ride home from Philadelphia to Clinton and thankfully these boys have had a great game schedule with no early games so they can get their rest!

Wednesday brings us back to the tournament for a final pool play game against Ontario Terriers U18. It will be important to win this game to give us great seeding in the playoffs. As this tournament is called College Showcase, there were several scouts there from local universities (D3) and also MLB scouts (Cleveland Indians). There are various scouts that come each day and it is a great opportunity for our boys to be seen.

Keep working hard Team BC!
