BC Baseball 7U and 9U Coaching Manuals Now Complete
Dear Presidents and Valued BC Baseball Members,
Over the past number of years BC Baseball has been consulting diligently with our member
associations and working to identify areas that we can provide a significant positive impact on
the game and the people involved in the sport.
One of the main areas we have prioritized is Player Development and Coach Training. We have
moved to a new Coach Training and certification program. One where we, as a population of
knowledgeable and experienced coaches, provide and manage the content. This program
works to uphold the principles of LTAD adopted by Baseball
Canada. Combined with countless hours of research and experience the intent of this new
program is to provide a more relevant and deliverable product to Coaches for their players.
The result will be a practical and current Coach
Training program that will remain dynamic and adjust as the needs of players and associations change.
This spring we will roll out the first stage of the program addressing coaches working with ages
5-8 years old in a format geared to their respective divisions. The feedback and data we collect
this year will be instrumental in what is designed for the next stage of the launch. Over the next
18 -24 months our intent is to formalize, deliver and implement our Coach Training program for the remaining divisions up to 18U.
This brings about a change in regard to Rule 11 for 2018 and will be updated in future
publications. For the 2018 Summer and Provincial season, there will not be any field staff
requirement of certification. However, B.C. Baseball will through a consultation process with it’s
association members during the 2018 baseball season, take into consideration new rule
compliance for the 2019 season.
In the meantime, stay tuned. B.C. Baseball will identify, through periodic updates to its member
associations, the progression of the Coaching Development Training manual as it meets the
continued steps towards older age groups.
If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions please don’t hesitate to reach out. We
welcome the dialogue.
