Coaches Caravan Opens with an Island Double Header
The 2018 BC Baseball Coaches Caravan rolled into Nanaimo on the back end of their double header seeing 330 participants between the two stops. Nanaimo was a hive of baseball activity with the 13U, 15U and 16U Selects ID camps also in town.
Opening up with a stop in Port Alberni the Caravan Crew put players, parents and coaches through their paces with morning sessions working on the fundamentals of Throwing, Catching, Hitting, Running and Fielding. The opportunity to provide a baseball experience away from the competition of a game allows the participants, specifically the parents, to absorb the reason why players start playing the game, FUN!
But hey, don’t just take our word for it… come out and see for yourself. It works, here is some feedback from one of our participants.
I just wanted to take a minute to thank you for hosting this year’s Coaching Caravan. Between the two of us, my husband and I have coached soccer, hockey, skiing and track and field and have both played sports all our lives. We found this coaching caravan incredibly helpful not only to our son but also to us! Even as somewhat experienced athletes and coaches we got so much out of this hour and a half. The clinic was really well run, the coaches were phenomenal and there was a lot of take away learning for all of us. I particularly loved lines such as ‘the most important skill in baseball is listening’ and the encouragement for parents to say things such as ‘we love watching you play’ instead of critiquing skills/play.
Thank you so much for bringing this to Nanaimo. We really appreciated it!"
Kudos to Mike Holyk, and his team of dedicated volunteers for crushin’ it once again!
