A final word from coach Cam Frick…

Team BC kicked off Championship play on Sunday with a game against the Spokane Vikings. Team BC took an early 1-0 lead in the first on after a leadoff single form Asher Hebert, two stolen bases and a sac fly from Cardel Dick, 1-0 Team BC after 1. The Vikings struck next in the fourth, scoring 3 runs off Team BC starter Aiden Henderson in the top of the 4th to take a 3-1 lead. Henderson pitched well over four innings (4IP, 5H, 3R, 2ER, 1BB, 5K) against a Vikings team that was very strong offensively. Team BC answered right back in the bottom half of the 4th, scoring 2 runs to tie the game 3-3 on a pair of doubles by Ryan Holfords and Jaron Palaschuk and an RBI 1B from Matt MacDonald. A couple of errors allowed the Vikings to take a 5-3 lead after 4-1/2 but Team BC answered back in a huge way with a solo HR by Asher Hebert and a Grand Slam by Jaron Palaschuk to punch their ticket to the next round with a 9-5 win. Great Frers pitched well in relief picking up the win for Team BC.

Team BC’s next game was against the powerhouse Walla Walla Athletics Grade 8 team who entered the day with an impressive 27-1 record on the season. Team BC took a 6-0 lead into the sixth but Walla Walla’s bats woke up and produced 9 hits in the final two innings to beat Team BC 7-6. Cardel Dick was outstanding on the mound (6IP, 6H, 4R, 2ER, 1BB, 7K). Asher Hebert stayed on fire at the plate going 4/4 and adding 3 SB’s. Matt MacDonald, Jaron Palaschuk & Ryan Holfords also added had multiple hits in the losing effort. Congrats to Walla Walla who went on to win the tournament (their 3rd tourney win of the year).

Team BC’s final game was against the Walla Walla Wolfpack Grade 7 team. Team BC came out firing on all cylinders sending 11 hitters to the plate in the first, putting up 8 runs including a deep HR from Aiden Henderson. That was all the offence Team BC needed as James Lawson, Will Anderson & Marcus Siemens combined to allow only 4 hits and 2 runs in the 14-2 victory.

The weather played nice offering the talented group of 18U players the opportunity to show off their best in a day long All Star Showcase attended by former MLB stars, college and university scouts and recruiters, and coaches.

The boys worked hard showcasing why they were chosen to compete and proved that the calibre of baseball is extremely strong in B.C. Baseball!

Starting off with the Gr. 11 players in the morning and closing with the Gr. 12 players in the afternoon they continued to set the bar at every point in the day long event. It was obvious as to why they belonged on the field together. They reflect the cumulative effort invested from the early days of our grassroots programming up to and including the apex of BC Baseball’s High Performance development options.

BC Baseball is proud of the selected players that participated, and a special thank- you to the coaches , volunteers and fans. Who helped make this a great day for baseball.
