The 2018 White Rock Mosquito AAA Tier 1 Tritons began their journey to the Provincial Championships with a Gold Medal at the Boulanger Memorial Tournament hosted by Cloverdale Minor Baseball. This gave great momentum into the regular season where they posted a 5-1-1 (.786) record which was good enough for first in league play. The Tritons also attended the Mid Summer Classic hosted by Abbotsford and finished third, letting the team know that this year’s final tournament was not going to be easy and that there would be some great teams challenging for Gold! At the Provincials the Tritons had some great round robin games that included victories over Tri-Cities(10-9), Nanaimo(11-4), Ridge Meadows(14-3) and Kamloops(16-9) giving them first in the pool with a 4-0 record. Next they were on to the Semi –Final against a strong Victoria Cougars team that had the Tritons down 7-1 in the third inning. They gave everything they had and were able to battle back, tying the game in the bottom of the final inning and eventually walking it off for an 8-7 victory! The Championship final was very fitting as the Tritons faced the Cloverdale Spurs as they have so many times in these big games. The Tritons were very charged up from the comeback win and were able to carry their fire into this game, posting a convincing 9-1 victory. It has been a great year of development and success for this group of 2007 year born players that they hope can carry forward. Winning a Provincial Championship is certainly something they will cherish for their lifetimes. We would like to send out a huge thank you to BC Baseball and to our wonderful hosts, Chilliwack Minor Baseball for a first class event.
